The other evening, I showed the kids a video of their buddy/old neighbor, James, riding his bike without training wheels. His dad had posted it on facebook. James is Ashton's age. Ashton watched in amazement with the biggest smile. Watching it must have triggered the "I CAN" button in Ashton's mind to see for the first time that doing that at his age was actually a possibility.
So the next morning, we woke up to find Ashton, already awake, in the garage using all sorts of tools to try to pry his training wheels off of his bike. He had actually come in to our bedroom FAR earlier than acceptable begging Todd out of bed to do it for him and we shewed him back to bed. The kid was determined there in the garage, so Todd took off the training wheels and a few minutes later filmed this with his phone! Boy, when he's set on doing something, he really does it!
After riding around a while in pure bliss, he marched into the house announcing that, since he can now ride his bike without training wheels, he's big enough to start showering instead of taking baths. Not sure where he made that connection... But he had his first shower that morning and, though he probably regretted it soon into it, he was a trooper and is still saying he's taking showers from now on. (He HATES water getting in his eyes or on his face at bath-time.)
I'm glad Ashton is enjoying his bike so much now!
