Ashton's Birthday Party!

Ashton wanted the Cars Movie theme for his birthday party.  It was my first party not creating a more original/home-made theme, but it was nice to not have as much effort put into it.  The b-day kit at the store makes things pretty simple.

As always, as the boys arrived, I had them color a picture- this one of Lightening McQueen.

This will have to be the last year I do that for Ashton's parties. The girls still enjoy it at Brielle's parties, but the boys were pretty vocal about it being a lame-o thing to do.  They were ready for ACTION!

The party was from 5:00 to 7:00 so we fed them dinner.
These guys were HILARIOUS to listen to while they ate and chatted together.  Definitely their own breed at this age!

We made popcorn for the part of the party coming up
and the boys LOVED watching it pop in the clear popper.

We gave them boxes to decorate as cars and they all seemed to LOVE this artistic form better than coloring a picture...
My sister-in-law, Taylor came to help and to babysit after the party ended.  Brielle's friend, Ella also came to the door to drop off her little brother to the party and we invited her to stay- both girls were a big help.  It was a very energetic crowd of 4-5 year old boys!

Some of the boys shared the bigger boxes.

I read them about the first four pages of the book, "Cars".  They were too loud and excited to be heard over, so we put on "Cars 1" and let them watch it until their popcorn was all gone.

The pinata fell before it broke much so Todd
dumped and sprinkled candy around after it fell.

Once the party ended and everyone headed home, Todd and I left the kids with Taylor babysitting so we could go watch the High School Basketball game- Fruitland vs. Payette.  Todd really likes watching Bryce Nattress play.  He's a junior and a starter and plays really well.  After the game we went to Denny's for dessert.

While we were at Denny's, the table next to us seating a handful of high school kids started talking about a young lady at school who is LDS, that we know.  They were talking about her like she was so weird that she couldn't do "this" and couldn't do "that" and she was so different.  They said she was really nice, but too bad she's Mormon.  Mormons are so weird for this and that reason.  I was really proud of her for the obvious many attempts of peer pressure she withstood even at the cost of being accepted by some of the kids at school.  It's never that she "can't" do those things, but that she chooses not to and for good reason.  I was really impressed.  Hopefully her example will teach them somehow that she's not moping around wishing she was doing those things or winning their approval, but she's actually very very happy.  And they can be too.

By the end of the day, I was bushed.  It was a late night after a crazy loud and busy party!  I still love parties.  Some things never change!  Even if they are wild and take a lot of energy!
