Day 5
The ship stopped in the Cayman Islands on the fourth day. Our excursion wasn't until 1:00 so in the morning I went to another acupuncture appointment. The kids went to Super Sloppy Science.
On land we took a bus ride the distance of a 5 minute walk... to a business called Atlantis
to go on a submarine ride. I thought this would be a huge hit for
kids. It was at first. We all liked the first 10 minutes or so, but it
was about an hour long. Just like riding any ride at an amusement park
would cease to be "amusing" after a few times on the same thing, this
felt like riding the ferris wheel for an hour. It was all the same fish
and the same dull blue sea flora. Getting in and getting going was
awesome. And reaching 101 feet below the surface was cool. But by the
time it resurfaced, we were ready for a change of scenery.
The Cayman Islands have a cool history. At some point in history the people of the isles saved 9 Brittish ships near their shores for which the King awarded them with no sales tax, no property tax, and no income tax forever. This is why they are known for their famous "off shore accounts". And their shopping is so popular that they even held a Grand Cayman shopping class on the ship the night before we got there for anyone wanting shopping guidance. To me, it looked like jewelry shop after jewelry shop after liquor store after liquor store. But if I ever lost my ring, I know where we'd go to replace it...
We figured if we wanted souvenirs at all, Grand Cayman would be the best place to buy them... so the kids each picked something out of a shop there.
We tried Virgin Strawberry Daqueries from Grand Cayman... didn't hold a candle to Mexico's, but still yummy.
Brielle and Ashton riding Aqua Duck.
Todd and Lainey riding Aqua Duck.
Lainey and I riding Aqua Duck.
The show later that night.
After dinner and the show, we put the kids to bed and headed to the Cruise theater to watch the new movie, "Need For Speed".
