I took the kids to the Kids Rodeo at our County Fair this past
weekend. They were looking forward to
the chicken chase. We've gone before and
the kids were sorely disappointed to not catch a chicken. But having the experience under their belts
and knowing how few chickens there are per children racing for them, they knew
they had to be FAST this time. Lainey
LLLLLLOOOOOOVVVVEEEESSSS animals. So she
HAD to catch a chicken. And sadly, she
did not. She was one of the little
children bawling as they walked off the dirt field and wailing about how much she loves chickens. But her age group was first and when it was
Ashton's turn, he made sure he was up front, eye on the chicken he wanted, and
ran faster than any kid on the field. He
was first to catch a chicken and Lainey was SO happy.
Then came the inevitable… what the heck do we do with a chicken!?? Chickens are not allowed in our neighborhood. So we called Todd's step dad's parents who own chickens and arranged to deliver our chicken to them when we left.
Ashton named the chicken "Henny Penny". I thought that was cute. He is firm that the chicken is still his and someday when we can petition the CC&R's of our neighborhood, we will get her back to keep her here. It was a blast to watch all that! Blazing hot, but fun!
