New Nephew, Tayson!

These are pictures from a visit to the hospital to see Todd's brother and sister-in-law and their brand new baby, Tayson.  Tayson was born on Super Bowl Sunday which saved the day for all the Broncos fans in the family!  (Broncos lost.)  Tayson was rushed to a planned surgery upon being born and everything went really well.

 Early on in the pregnancy, they found that Tayson had Gastroschisis where the bowels are not sealed into the abdomen and are exposed on the outside.  Medical knowledge and technology is pretty comfortable with this condition as it is somewhat common.  I actually have another nephew on this side of the family who was born with the same condition 13 years ago. 

They like to take the baby early to do the necessary surgeries of putting everything back into the abdomen and sealing it up before it gets too complicated or damaged.  This little guy was well enough off to wait until 6 weeks early so that his lungs would be fully functional/developed.

Sitting in the hospital watching him breath, it was so profoundly impressive how far we've come in medical ability.  His IV was so small to fit in his tiny arm.  Machines were beeping all his vital signs while connected to some part of his itty bitty body.  The very bed he was in was ingenious technology.  He had a morphine drip having just come out of surgery an hour before we came.  His little eyes opened for a while and it just seemed for a moment such a rough introduction to life.  But how grateful we all are that little Tayson has overcome the hurtles of this complication after many weeks in the hospital and is home with his family where they are all doing well.
